33 JCD men held in Kushtia

23 crude bombs recovered

Police have detained 33 leaders and activists of Kushtia district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) while they were holding "a secret meeting" at the house of a BNP central leader in the district town.

JCD Kushtia district unit president Mahfuzur Rahman Mithun, its general secretary SR Shipon, joint secretary Rakibul Islam Rabbi and organising secretary Roknuzzaman Rassel were among the detainees, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.

Law enforcers had secret information that some JCD men were holding meeting at the house of BNP’s central committee member Barrister Ragib Rouf Choudhury to plot subversive activities at Thanapara in the town last night, Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC-operation) of Kushtia Model Police Station, told the correspondent today.

Later, a police team launched a drive at the house around 9:00pm and detained the 33 JCD leaders and activists, said the OC.

Police also recovered 23 cocktails from a hideout near Ragib’s house.

A case was lodged against them with the police station under subversive act.

Contacted, Barrister Ragib said the JCD leaders and activists came to his house for courtesy visit after formation committee recently.
