BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that that the government is “cheating” people in the name of secularism.

“Religious programmes were hindered in various places in the country during holy Ramadan. Organisers were arrested in different places,” he alleged.

He came up with the allegation while addressing an Iftar party organised by Jamiet Ulamaye Bangladesh at a city hotel.

Fakhrul alleged that an Iftar party was foiled in the constituency of party’s standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan.

He also alleged that its key ally Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was barred to hold an Iftar party on June 12 at Basundhara Convention centre.

“Not only this, the government is also destroying the temples and pagodas of Hindu and Buddhist community and the ruling party men are grabbing their properties.”

Fakhrul said that this government is not safe for the country.

“So to restore democracy, the government will be compelled to hold a free and fair election under a supportive election time government,” he said.
