Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today said he does not want to dishonour Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by leaving from the post of her special envoy.

“Prime minister has honoured me by appointing me as her special envoy. The prime minister will be dishonoured, if I resign from the post. So, I cannot do so. I will have to talk to her in this regard,” Ershad said.

Ershad said this in a press statement issued after a meeting held at his party’s Banani office in Dhaka today, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

In the statement, he said the parliament will be more functional and the government will be beneficial, if the Jatiya Party is strengthened.

About the recent development in the party’s senior posts, “I have appointed co-chairman of the party and changed its secretary general for the sake of party’s interest.”

Leaders and activists of the party have been made proactive across the country through this change and the party has also gained its momentum, he added.

“We are the sole opposition in the parliament. I hope that our all lawmakers would take part in the parliament and would refrain from making any comments that mislead people,” he added.
