Modi to seek blessings from mother in Gujarat

In this handout photograph received from the Gujarat Information Bureau on May 22, 2014, India's prime minister-elect and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi (L) speaks with his mother Heeraben before leaving for New Delhi at her home in Gandhinagar, some 30 kms from Ahmedabad. Narendra Modi's landslide victory in India's polls has swept aside the long-dominant Congress party and left many of the most high-profile politicians clinging on for dear life after staggering electoral losses. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Gujarat tomorrow to seek the blessings of his mother Heeraben after his BJP-led National Democratic Alliance returned to power with a massive majority in the parliamentary elections.

On Monday, Modi will be in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency which  he retained in the recent elections by a margin of 4.79 lakh votes, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

"Will be going to Gujarat tomorrow evening, to seek blessings of my Mother. Day after tomorrow morning, I will be in Kashi to thank the people of this great land for reposing their faith in me," the prime minister said in a Twitter post.

Modi makes it a point to meet his mother before important occasions like elections, apart from routine visits despite his packed day plans.

Before Modi went to a polling booth in Ahmedabad in his home state of Gujarat to exercise his franchise in parliamentary constituency on May 23, he spent 20 minutes with his mother who lives with his brother Pankaj Modi at their family home near the Gujarat state capital.
