The Avengers Go Back to School

Platforms: Android, iOS

Marvel Avengers Academy re-imagines Marvel heroes (and villains) as high school students. You start with young, cocky Tony Stark who joins Avengers Academy, led by Nick Fury and Pepper Potts. The gameplay focuses on transforming the Academy into a formidable threat that can take on Hydra or defeat Ultron's robots by upgrading characters, constructing buildings like Stark Tower, and recruiting new heroes.

As you complete quests you earn coins, your Academy Level increases, and you can unlock more heroes. Stark is soon followed by Wasp, Black Widow and Loki. Constructing new buildings and making your heroes complete activities takes a few seconds to a few minutes, which you have to wait out or can speed up using in-game currency (coins or Infinity Gem Shards).

The best part is your characters are typical, egotistical, social media-obsessed, hormonal teenagers. They also have unique skills like shape-shifting or mental manipulation. The characters look good too and the overall graphics are impressive; care has been put into designing outfits and facial features and there are some famous people behind the voices – Alexandra Daddario, Dave Franco, and even John Cena (very apt as Hulk).

The personality quirks and ease of completing quests mean the game has a fun start, but slows down a little afterwards. Quests and actions take longer as you progress, which means you either wait or spend lots of in-game currency (and possibly real money). You don't particularly have to be a Marvel fan to enjoy this - I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone - especially if you're into SimCity.
