19th BDC-IUB ‘Pre-Worlds’ returns after three-year long hiatus from physical events

With the recent championship run of Sajid Asbat Khandaker and Sourodip Paul at this year's World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC), debating has grown in terms of the popularity stakes. For most debaters who debate at such an elite level, the journey usually begins from their school life.

The most significant school level debating tournament of the year is Pre-Worlds, organised by Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC). After a three-year long hiatus from physical events, during which Pre-Worlds happened online, the 19th edition of the highly anticipated tournament is being hosted in collaboration with the IUB Debate Club at Independent University, Bangladesh.

The anticipation surrounding Pre-Worlds is palpable, as it serves as a precursor for the national team selection of World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC), which is often referred to as the world cup of debate for the school level. The best debaters in Pre-Worlds qualify for the National Camp to undergo a rigorous process through which five individuals are chosen to represent our red and green flag at the WSDC.

Pre-Worlds is the grandest debating experience for school debaters from all across the country as they come together, set the stage, and compete to get selected for the world cup of debating.

Therefore, Pre-Worlds' contribution in terms of uplifting the debaters of our country can never be overstated as it can be considered as the stepping stone for all Bangladeshi debaters who hope to represent the country on the global stage.

50 teams will be going up against each other in this years' Bangladesh Debating Council's flagship event which is being held from the 10th of November to the 12th of November, from where the five individuals who will represent our country at next year's WSDC in Vietnam will be chosen!
