Rice University waives English proficiency test requirements for certain Bangladeshi universities

Bangladeshi students from particular institutions can now apply to Rice University without sitting for English proficiency tests.

Rice University is ranked at 100 by QS World University Rankings 2023 and at 15 by  U.S. News & World Report. According to the university website, prospective foreign national graduate students from certain institutions in different countries qualify for an English proficiency test waiver in accordance with their policies. 

For Bangladesh, students from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), North South University (NSU), and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) are eligible for the waiver. For Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) only students from the Engineering programs are eligible for the waiver.

Students from the above mentioned institutions must enter the name of the university as provided in their website. It has also been mentioned that prospective students must not contact the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies directly regarding any waivers. Other prospective students from universities not in the list will have to show proof of their English proficiency by scoring a 90 on the iBT TOEFL, 7 on the IELTS, or 115 on the Duolingo test of English proficiency.
