Cyclone Sitrang: Trees uprooted on DU campus, one injured

Several trees collapsed on Dhaka University campus last night (October 24, 2022) due to squally weather caused by Cyclone Sitrang, leaving a person injured.

The injured, Mohammad Fakhrul Islam, is a laundry man of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall of the university, our DU correspondent reports quoting hall provost.

Talking to the correspondent, Kabir Hossain, the security man of Shahidullah Hall, said a Krishnachura tree suddenly fell to the ground in front of the Shahidullah Hall gate around 8pm during the storm.

Fakhrul received injuries in his head after being hit by branches of the tree, he said, adding that he was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Professor Jabed Hossain, provost (acting) of the hall, confirmed The Daily Star, "One person (Fakhrul) was injured when the tree fell on him."

According to at the university's arboriculture center, a neem tree fell at Amar Ekushey Hall while a bel tree in front of the South Building of Jagannath Hall, a rubber tree in front of the Teacher student Centre (TSC) and a black berry (jam) tree in front of 'Tin Netar Mazar', near Doyel Chatter during the storm.
