Social safety net allocation to rise 5.5%

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today proposed increasing the allocation by 5.5 per cent year-on-year for social safety net programmes carried out by the government.

He recommended allocating a total of Tk 113,576 crore, up from the current fiscal year's Tk 107,614 crore, for the implementation of social safety net programmes in the budget for upcoming FY 23.

The proposed allocation is 16.75 percent of the total budget and 2.55 percent of the gross domestic product.
