Bangladesh beat Papua New Guinea to reach semis

Bangladeshi Tigresses today slammed the women side of Papua New Guinea with a 41-run victory in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier at Bangkok in Thailand today.

After winning the toss, New Guinea skipper Norma Ovasuru chose to field first.

In face of a disciplined bowling attack, the Bangladesh side lost half of their wickets posting just 47 runs to the scoreboard.




Later, a steady 28-run knock from Fargana Hoque and late surge from Nigar Sultana, Ritu Moni and skipper Jahanara Alam took the scoreboard to 100 for 7 in their stipulated 20 overs.

Kari Seura bagged two wickets for the New Guinean side.


In their chase, the New Guinean side was flashed away by Khadija Tul Kubra’s five wicket haul and three-wicket haul by Rumana Ahmed. Only two New Guinean player could post double digit scores.

Khadija Tul Kubra was named player of the match for her outstanding bowling performance.

With this win, the Bangladesh side reached the semifinal stage of the tournament with 100 percent victories in the group stage.

The two finalists of this tournament will qualify to play in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 cup, 2016 scheduled to be held in India.
