Spinners lead Tigers to series victory

Bangladesh continued their dominance over the West Indies in ODIs as the Tamim Iqbal-led side registered a comprehensive nine-wicket victory to clinch the three-match series 2-0 with a game in hand at the Providence Stadium in Guyana yesterday.

After bundling out the hosts for a meagre 108 in just 35 overs -- the Tigers' best bowling performance against a Test-playing side away from home -- Tamim smashed an unbeaten fifty while Liton Das was 32 not out to see the Tigers home in just 20.4 overs.

Tamim finished the chase in style, going down the ground and smashing spinner Gudakesh Motie for a boundary to bring up his 53rd ODI fifty.

The win was Bangladesh's 10th in a row over West Indies in ODIs, which also ensured the Tigers' fourth successive bilateral series triumph against them.

Bangladesh got off to a solid start as openers Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto combined for a 48-run stand.

Shanto departed when he miscued a Motie delivery and was caught in the cow corner in the 13th over.

Bangladesh batters dealt in boundaries since then with Tamim smashing a total of seven fours and Liton hitting six boundaries during their unbroken stand.

Earlier, Bangladesh made one change for the game as pacer Taskin Ahmed made made way for all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain in the line-up. The move paid dividends as Mosaddek, along with two other spinners in Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Nasum Ahmed, shared eight wickets among them to dismantle the Windies' batting order.

Tamim introduced all three spinners inside the first 10 overs and Mosaddek was the one who provided the breakthrough for the Tigers, dismissing Kyle Mayers for 17.

Left-arm spinner Nasum, playing only his second ODI, then joined the party as he rampaged through the Windies' middle-order. He began with the wicket of Shamrah Brooks (5) and then went on to scalp the crucial wickets of Shai Hope (18) and skipper Nicholas Pooran in the same over, leaving the hosts reeling at 45 for four in 18 overs.

After that, Miraz made his presence felt as he ripped through the lower order of the Windies' line-up.

Miraz, who had scalped three wickets in the first match three days ago, ended with figures of four for 29 from his eight overs while Nasum bagged three for 19 from his 10, including four maidens.

Bangladesh will wrap up their monthlong tour of the Caribbean with the third and final ODI against the hosts at the same venue on July 16.
