Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the first T20I against Afghanistan today owing to a thumb injury he suffered on Wednesday. BCB informed the media today that Mushfiqur had contusion on his right-hand thumb.

Bangladesh had added Nurul Hasan Sohan in the squad late last night as precautionary measure but according to team sources, Mushfiqur was expected to feature in the match today. BCB physician Monzur Hossain had last night confirmed to The Daily Star that Mushfiqur's scan did not reveal anything major.

However, the contusion had seen the management decide to rest Mushfiqur today.

"He will be under observation of the medical team and will be assessed on Friday before a decision is made regarding his availability for the second and final match of the series in 05 March," a BCB media release said.

"His X-Ray was normal but there was some swelling in the area and colour changes. We're keeping him under observation and he was ruled out of today's match. Tomorrow after his practice, we will inform you regarding our concrete decision about him," BCB Physio Bayzid Ul Islam informed the media over a video message.

Mushfiqur was set to appear in his 100th T20I today and will be disappointed to be in the sidelines for the first T20I.
