Openers hang in there as Tigers follow on

After bundling the visitors all out for 126 runs yesterday, New Zealand enforced follow on today as Bangladesh began their second innings from the start of the third day of the Christchurch Test while trailing by 395 runs.

Openers Shadman Islam began the proceedings for the Tigers with a boundary off Tim Southee in the first delivery of the innings and since have cautiously dealt the pace and swing of Trent Boult and Southee alongside his partner Naim Sheikh, the debutant.

The Kiwis made their first bowling change and brought on Kyle Jamieson in the tenth over as Bangladesh are on 22 runs without loss after 12 overs of play with Shadman, having scored the bulk of the runs, on 16 off 37 while the more nervous partner Naim is on 5 off 35 balls. The visitors, who at this stage in their first innings had already lost five wickets, still trail by a mammoth 373 runs.
