South Africa suffer Covid setback before Day 4

Two South Africa players have tested positive for Covid-19 before the start of day's play in Gqeberha today and will not be taking further part in the ongoing second and final Test of the series against Bangladesh, confirmed Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Bowling all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who have been in fine form with the ball in the ongoing Test, and opening batter Sarel Erwee - are the two players who are currently placed under quarantine.

"This is an unfortunate situation, but not expected after the decision was made to have this tour under the Managed Event Environment (MEE) protocol, rather than the strict Bio-safe Environment (BSE) protocol as was previously the case. This is in line with the country's policy in revoking Disaster Management Act with reference to the pandemic, as well the huge mental strain that a bubble environment induces," said Dr Shuaib Manjra, CSA Chief Medical Officer.

Khaya Zondo, who makes his Test debut, replaces Erwee while Glenton Stuurman will field for Mulder.

South Africa are on the verge of winning the ongoing Test in an emphatic fashion, yet again, as Bangladesh are already six down for 46 runs early in Day 4 morning session as the Tigers chase 413 runs to win the Test and level the series. The hosts are highly unlikely to miss Mulder in the bowling as the spin duo of Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer are continuing to wreak havoc.
