We are experienced enough, says Sohan

Nurul Hasan Sohan considers Bangladesh T20 squad 'experienced enough' and the new captain of the T20 side wants to imprint their own style in the format.

Bangladesh are set to play a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe, starting from tomorrow, without a few of their experienced campaigners -- such as Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim -- who were rested for the series. However, during a pre-match press conference today, Sohan was quick to disagree with the notion that this Bangladesh T20 side were inexperienced.

"You can't say this is an inexperienced team because all the boys, maximum boys, have been playing for six-seven years. I think we are experienced enough," said the wicketkeeper-batter who is pleased with the team at his disposal.

"I'm happy with the team. I think we will get some challenges but we are ready to take the challenge."

Sohan, who became the eighth T20 captain for Bangladesh, was not willing to come up with any excuses regarding acclimatising to conditions and preparations in such a short span of time.

"Zimbabwe are a good team in their conditions and this will be a competitive series. But you know, at the same time, we didn't come here to run and to learn. We came here to win the series and that's the main thing for us," said Sohan, who said it is a proud moment to lead Bangladesh.

Much has been said about the need for the Tigers to play aggressive cricket in the shortest format, especially with the bat, with a lot of emphasis given on power-hitting among other things. Sohan said he wants Bangladesh to establish their own brand of cricket.

"Some teams may be better at power-hitting, for example. But if we can play smart and remain sensibly then, instead of over-boundaries, a lot of boundaries can be hit.

"This [series] is an opportunity to play our own brand of cricket. We are not concerned about what other teams are doing."
