Red cards in the World Cup so far

There have been five red cards at the Fifa World Cup 2022 in Qatar so far. The first sending-off came for Wales when they played Iran in their Group B clash. Wayne Hennessey was shown a red card for clobbering Mehdi Taremi in the last 10 minutes of their second game.

Denzel Dumfries was sent off for a second yellow in the Netherlands' eventual penalty defeat by Argentina. In a feisty game of many cards, the Inter Milan star received his second yellow card  once the shoot-out had finished.

Vincent Aboubakar was shown a red card for taking off his shirt as he celebrated his stoppage time goal for Cameroon during their 1-0 win against Brazil. The 30-year-old accepted the dismissal and even shook the referee's hand.

South Korea coach Paulo Bento was shown a red card shortly after his side lost 3-2 to Ghana in an action-packed World Cup Group H match. Bento ran onto the pitch to confront Premier League referee Anthony Taylor after the full-time whistle. Bento angrily protested the decision and was eventually shown a red card.

Morocco's Walid Cheddira was shown the second yellow card in the third minute of the extra time in the quarter-finals against Portugal but that didn't hamper on their way to become the first Arab and African country to reach the semi-final of the World Cup.
