Bangladeshi migrants tortured in Libyan ‘game ghor’

Nuruzzaman Raju had a mobile repairing shop at the Gulistan underground market in the capital. With an aim to start a better life in Europe, Raju, 29, sold the shop for around Tk 12 lakh and left the country for Italy in March this year.

A human trafficking racket first sent him to Dubai and then to Libya from there. However, the journey came to a halt after Raju reached Benghazi. The racket's Libyan counterparts kept Raju confined for the last eight months in a place called "game ghor", where migrants are tortured and extorted.

Later, they are sent to Italy and other European countries by treacherous journeys via the Mediterranean Sea. This is how Aminul Islam, Raju's helpless father, was narrating the story of his son with The Daily Star yesterday.
