Around 56% users are using mobiles for more than 5 years in Bangladesh

Two women are seen using a mobile phone in rural Bangladesh.

According to the preliminary reports of the first digital 'Census and Household Census 2022' by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), 55.89% of mobile users are using it for more than 5 years. Additionally, the number of internet users is 30.68% of the total population.

The first digital 'Census and Household Census 2022' preliminary report by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) were released today in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.

Dilder Hossain, Project Director of BBS, highlighted various aspects of the report during the event. Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, Planning Minister MA Mannan, State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam and others also were present.

According to the census and household census, the population of Bangladesh is now 16,51,58,616. For the first time, the population census has found that there are more females than males in Bangladesh. The male population is 8.17 Crore while the female population is 8.33 Crore.

The census and house enumeration activities started simultaneously on June 15 across the country. The census was supposed to end on June 21, but due to floods in the north-eastern districts, the census continued till June 28 in these districts.

In 2001, the population of the country was 12.43 Crore. In 1991, there were 10.63 crore people. In 1981, there were 8.71 crore people and in the first census of 1974, the population of the country was 7.14 crore.
