Microsoft to cease Windows 10 purchase from next month

January 31, 2023 will be the last day this Windows 10 download is offered for sale - states the official Microsoft website.

Microsoft is officially removing the option to download Windows 10 Home and Pro after January 31, 2023. As per the company's latest announcement, users cannot access the download pack with license keys to activate Windows 10 from the official Microsoft website starting next month.

Microsoft has also added that they will officially stop supporting Windows 10 from October 14, 2025, which includes security updates to protect the PC from viruses and spyware.

As such, the option to download the OS is being removed more than two years before the cease of official support. However, those who have already installed Windows 10 on their devices can continue to use the OS.

As per a report by The Verge, Microsoft has thus far planned to remove only their official support for selling Windows 10. It is currently unclear whether third-party sellers such as Amazon will be able to continue selling Windows 10 downloads and license keys.

According to Microsoft, customers have until January 31, 2023, to officially purchase and use Windows 10 Home and Pro OS from the Microsoft website. The company also recommends existing Windows 10 users to shift to Windows 11 instead, which will keep receiving official support from Microsoft.

Windows 10 was launched in July 2015, following the much-criticised Windows 8. As per The Verge, it was the first-ever version of the Windows operating system that offered continuous updates and support from Microsoft. Until the launch of Windows 11 on October, 2021, Windows 10 was deemed as the official Windows version by the company.
