Tragic death of 4yr-old Jihad

The country was shocked at the sad fate of the four-year old Jihad. The ill fated child fell down the 300-foot well shaft while playing with other children Shahjahanpur Railway Colony in Dhaka around 4:00pm on December 26. His body was pulled out by a group of volunteers around 3:00pm the following day, shortly after the government agencies called off the rescue bid on Saturday saying there was no sign of the boy inside the well.

Their grief has been further intensified by the callous and insensitive behaviour of the government agencies involved in the rescue effort. Not only was it totally messed up by the Fire Brigade, the handling of the situation, the behaviour and utterances of persons in positions of responsibility, including the state minister for home also confounded the situation.
Jihad suffered head injuries while falling down the borehole and drowned in the water at the bottom of the well shaft around two hours into his fall, forensic experts concluded on December 28.
