Farashuddin elected member of UN civil service body

Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Mohammed Farashuddin has been elected as the member of the International Civil Service Commission (ISCS) for a four-year term starting from January 1, 2017.  

Dr Farashuddin was unanimously elected at an election held at the United Nations yesterday, reads a press release by Permanent Mission of Bangladesh at the UN.

International Civil Service Commission, one of the most important subsidiary body of the General Assembly, is responsible for the regulation and coordination of the staff conditions of service within the UN, the specialised agencies and other international organisations that participate in the UN common system and accept the Commission's Statute.  

The Commission comprises 15 independent experts.

Farashuddin had the privilege of working as the private secretary to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the prime minister and president during 1973-'75.  He, a renowned scholar and founder vice chancellor of East West University, has a wealth of experience in working at the national level as well as the international arena, the press note said.

The election of Dr Farashuddin as the member of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) would reinforce Bangladesh's engagement in the multilateral arena, the press release said.
