JnU BCL VP sues unit president, 4 others for extortion

A vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Jagannath University unit today filed an extortion case against the unit's president Ibrahim Forazi and four others, including a police inspector.

Moshiur Rahman Lizon filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikari, said court sources.

The four others are: Tutul Ahmed, a vice-president of the same Chhatra League unit, Arshad Akash, police inspector with Shibchar Police Station, and Farhad Bepari and Rasel Chaklader.

According to the case statement, on August 25 last year, Farhad borrowed Tk four lakh from Lizon. He assured him of paying back from profits from his business.

After a few days, when Lizon asked Farhad for the money, Farhad said that he incurred a loss and he would return the money soon.

On October 5 last year, Farhad threatened to kill Lizon if he demanded the money again, according to the statement.

JnU Chhatra League President Ibrahim Forazi had assured Lizon that he would solve the problem and asked the complainant to meet him.

However, on November 18, when Lizon went to see Ibrahim, Ibrahim beat up the complainant.

Inspector Arshad Akash, who was present there at that time, took Lizon's iPhone and Tk 11,000 from at gunpoint, Lizon alleged.

The magistrate recorded the statement of the complainant and directed the officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station to submit a report before the court by April 16.

Akash and Farhad have denied the allegations.

"The allegations against me are totally false. On November 18, 2022, I was in Madaripur," Akash said.

Farhad on the other hand, said that it is Lizon who owes him Tk two lakhs.
