Govt announces 2-day weekend for educational institutions to save power

All educational institutions under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) have been instructed to remain closed for two days a week as part of the government's move to save power.

The students hereon will enjoy holidays on Friday and Saturday, said a notification of the Education Ministry issued today (August 22, 2022).

The new arrangement will be effective soon, it said.

The authorities concerned of the universities have been asked to take necessary steps in this regard.

On June 17, the government directed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to close shopping malls and kitchen markets by 8pm to save energy.

Earlier today, the cabinet rescheduled the office hours of government and autonomous institutions from 8am to 3pm to save electricity and reduce traffic jams.

All the banks across the county will remain open from 9am to 4pm.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam informed reporters about the decision at his secretariat office today.
