The first chartered flight of China Eastern Airlines carrying Bangladeshi students enrolled in China, who got stuck due to the Covid-19 pandemic, landed in Kunming in southern Yunnan province today (September 26, 2022).

The students are free to choose flights to their preferences, said an official at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, noting that other students are planning to take the following flights.

Six flights of China Southern Airlines and Eastern Airlines were scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh by September and October to welcome back the Bangladeshi students.

The chartered flights were slated to leave Dhaka for China on September 26, 28 and October 10, 12, 24, and 26, he added.

Earlier, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka opened a "green channel" to issue visas for the Covid-stranded students.

Around 3,000 Bangladeshi students had to return home from China due to Covid-19. And many of them continued their studies online.

During his meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on August 7, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured of expeditiously returning all Bangladeshi students to China to resume their studies in person.
