Two committees formed over mistakes and errors in textbooks

The education ministry today formed two probe committees to identify mistakes in textbooks and ascertain whether the errors were the result of any negligence by the officials.

Dhaka University's IER Director Abdul Halim will lead the seven-member probe committee to find out the mistakes in the textbooks, said a Secondary and Higher Education Division office order issued around noon today.

This committee has been asked to submit its report within one month.

Meanwhile, a separate committee was formed to investigate negligence of the officials.

The committee will be headed by Khaleda Akter, additional secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division. This committee, comprising seven members, has been asked to submit a report by three weeks.

The development came as the government has been facing criticism after many errors in new school textbooks were reported earlier this month following the books' distribution among students.

An allegation of plagiarism in the seventh-grade science textbooks was also raised.
