Three days into the acute gas crisis in Dhaka, gas extraction has started from three wells in the largest gas field Bibiana.

Gas crisis hit the country since the first day of Ramadan (April 3) after six wells of the Bibiana gas field stopped working.

Bibiana, in Habiganj's Nabiganj, has 26 wells.  Six of them stopped working as dirt accumulated in the pipelines.

Gas extraction has become normal in 3 wells this morning, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Chevron Bangladesh's Communications Manager Sheikh Zahidur Rahman.

However, gas extraction in the remaining three wells will take more time to become functional, the Chevron official said.

Residents of Mirpur, Pallabi, Lalmatia, Shahjahanpur, Mohammadpur, Tejturi Bazar, Razabazar and Dhanmondi complained of severe gas shortage since first Ramadan and said they had to buy food and iftar items from restaurants.
