New Market clashes: HC directs 14 BNP men to surrender to lower court

The High Court today directed 14 BNP leaders and activists to surrender before the lower court concerned in six weeks – in connection with two cases filed over the clashes between Dhaka College students and traders in New Market area.

The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Salim passed orders following three separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases which were lodged on charges of preventing police from discharging duties.

Earlier in the day, the accused petitioners including New Market Thana Juba Dal President Amir Hossain appeared before the HC bench for bail.

Lawyers Kayser Kamal and Maksud Ullah argued for the petitioners.

So far, five cases have been filed over the clashes in Dhaka New Market area on April 19. Three of the cases were filed by police while two others were filed over the murders of Nahid Mia and Morsalin.
