Factional clash at Narsingdi: Another JCD activist dies

A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist, who was shot during yesterday's clash between two groups of the party in Narsingdi town, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital this morning.

Ashraful Islam, 20, breathed his last around 9:30am while being treated at the post operative ward of the hospital following a surgery, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.

He became the second JCD activist to die of wounds suffered in the clash.

Earlier, Sadekur Rahman, 32, a former senior joint convener of District Chhatra Dal's convening committee, was declared dead at DMCH around 7:30pm yesterday after he was taken there with bullet injuries.

Local JCD leaders said that on January 26 this year, the central JCD formed a five-member committee of the district with Siddiqur Rahman Nahid as president and Mehedi Hasan as general secretary.

Since then, JCD leaders and activists, who were deprived of posts in the committee, have been agitating for the cancellation of the committee.

They were protesting near the district BNP office in Chinishpur yesterday afternoon, said the district's former senior BNP vice-president Mainuddin Bhuiyan, adding that the leaders and activists of the other group of the JCD then attacked the protesters.
