In 10 months 195 women, children were raped, murdered or tortured in Narayanganj

In the last ten months until October this year, at least 195 women and children were either raped, murdered or physically and verbally abused in Narayanganj. 

Narayanganj district unit of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad revealed the information at a press conference at its office in the city today marking the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Of them, 75 women and children were raped, seven were gang-raped, nine were murdered after rape, 13 women and three children were murdered, 25 were sexually harassed, five women were killed by their husbands for dowry, five were abducted, 50 have been physically and mentally abused and three were tortured, it said.

The information was collected based on reports of daily newspapers and direct allegations. 

Due to the pandemic, it wasn't possible to gather more information or else this number would have increased, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (Narayanganj unit) added in the press conference.
