Road accidents kill six

At least six people were killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet and Gaibandha yesterday and on Tuesday.

UNB from Narsingdi reports: At least three passengers were killed and 20 others injured when a Dhaka-bound limousine bus from Brahmanbaria skidded off the road to a ditch at Hajirbagan in Shibpur upazila yesterday.

Mustaqur Rahman Akash, 38, and Korban Ali, 40, died on the spot while Alamgir, 25, died in Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Survivors said the bus rolled into the ditch as the driver lost control over the steering.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals and clinics.

Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria adds: One housewife succumbed to her injuries in the hospital bed on Tuesday and her husband is struggling for life as a speeding truck knocked them at Bhadughar point under Brahmanbaria pourasobha of the district on Tuesday.

The dead was identified as Rujina Akter, 24, of Noapara of Bhadughar village while the injured was identified as Anar Mia, 28.

According to witnesses and hospital sources, the couple were returning home after shopping in Brahmanbaria town on Monday night.

A speeding truck knocked them down from behind, when they were crossing Bhadughar point on Brahmanbaria-Comilla road. In a critical condition, they were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.

On Tuesday, Rujina succumbed to her injuries in the hospital bed.

The autopsy of the body was done at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.

The driver with his truck managed to escape the scene.

UNB from Sylhet adds: A day labourer was killed and three others were injured as a truck fell into a roadside ditch near Poulam village in Dharampasha upazila yesterday.

Harris Miah, 30, son of Matiur Rahman of Nouhal village in Mohanganj upazila under Netrokona district, died on the spot.

Witnesses said the accident occurred at about 2:00pm when the driver of the Gazipur-bound truck, carrying the labourers along with fish, lost control over the steering while overtaking a rickshaw.

Seriously injured Faruque was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex while others were given first aid.

Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.

Our Correspondent from Gaibandha reports: A truck helper was killed and three others sustained injuries in a road accident at Nasirabad on Gobindagnaj-Dinajpur highway yesterday.

Police said a melon-laded truck from Thakurgaon turned upside down and fell into a roadside ditch, leaving truck helper Babu, 30, dead on the spot. The truck also knocked three pedestrians when its driver lost control over the steering. The injured were rushed to Gobindaganj Health Complex.
