Belongings worth Tk 3 lakh looted
Robbers looted belongings worth around Tk 3 lakh from several passengers on a Chittagong-bound train from Dhaka here in the port city yesterday.
They also stabbed at least five of them, said the sources and witnesses.
According to sources, some seven robbers boarded on Mahanagar Gadhuli that got stuck on its way to Chittagong and was running late reportedly due to an accident.
Immediately after the train left Pahartali railway station the robbers locked the doors on both the ends of a bogie and started looting the passengers of their belongings at around 1:20am.
During the looting, they also stabbed some of the passengers who tried to protest and took away gold ornaments and cash money worth Tk 3 lakh before they got down at Pologround area near Kadamtali rail crossing, said the sources.
Of the injured passengers, four were identified as railway employee Ganesh Kanti Banik, 50, and his wife, 38, Milon Hossain, 24, and Abdul Ali, 22.
Ganesh's relative Nagendra Chandra Banik, also a pipe fitter of railway, filed a case with GRP station in this connection, sources said.
