Case against Rab official, five others

A real estate businessman filed a case with a Sylhet Sadar cognisance court against six persons, including an official of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), on Tuesday, accusing them of ransacking his house in Shahjalal Upashahar area and looting money.

The accused are Rab official Major Wasiul Hasan Chowdhury and his brother Waliul Hasan Chowdhury of village Judisthipur in Fenchuganj, Sylhet, Advocate Chowdhury Ataur Rahman Azad, Shariful Huda Chowdhury, Ustar Miag and Shahed Ahmed.

The magistrate of the court sent the case records to the officer in charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station for necessary actions the same day.

In the case, complainant Haji Helal Ahmed said that he joined the real estate business with Wasiul's wife and others after Wasiul persuaded him.

Following a disagreement between Helal and Wasiul over a land sale deal several months ago, Wasiul issued threats over phone, Helal alleged in the case.

He also alleged that as a sequel to the disagreement, the accused ransacked his house on February 14 and looted Tk 10,20,000, Prize Bond worth Tk 30,000, 10 passports and a mobile phone.

He said that Kotwali police refused to register a GD in this connection when he approached them following the incident.
