The government has appointed three special public prosecutors (PPs) headed by Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajol for conducting the murder case of Buet student Abrar Fahad Rabbi on behalf of the state before the trial court.

The other two special PPs of this case are Advocate Ehsanul Haque Samaji and Advocate Md Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan.

The law ministry issued a notification to this effect yesterday.

Mosharraf Hossain Kajol has been appointed chief special PP for the case, according to the notification.

The government has recently transferred the case from Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's court to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka in order to finish trial proceedings quickly, as Abrar's family had earlier met Law Minister Anisul Huq and requested him to transfer the case to a Speedy Trial Tribunal.

On October 7 last year, Abrar -- a second-year student of electrical and electronics engineering department at Buet -- was beaten to death by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League men at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall in Dhaka.
