5 absconding Bangabandhu killers to be brought back: law minister
The government is committed to bringing the remaining five absconding killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman back to the country in order to execute their death sentences, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
"Five convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were executed on January 28, 2010 following the Supreme Court verdict. The government had then promised that it would bring the other fugitive killers of Bangabandhu back to the country and execute their death sentences. Another convicted killer, Abdul Majed, was executed yesterday.
"Once again, I am promising in the Mujib Borsho that the government will bring all fugitive killers back from abroad and execute their death sentences," he said.
The law minister made the commitment through a video message from his Gulshan residence.
He said bringing the absconding killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members back to the country was a big challenge for the government.
"One of the killers has been brought back and executed in Mujib Borsho, which is a matter of satisfaction," Minister Anisul Huq said.
Convicted killers Rashed Chowdhury, Noor Chowdhury, Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Shariful Haque Salim and Moslem Uddin have been absconding abroad.
