“Hitarar Geet” staged in Mymensingh
“Hitarar Geet”, a dance-drama based on the folklore of Mymensingh region, was performed at Advocate Tareq Smriti Auditorium in the town on Sunday evening.
Prof. Abdur Rashid Miah Smriti Sangsad, a prominent cultural group of the town staged the dance drama at a four-day cultural show marking the inaugural ceremony of Advocate Tareq Smriti Auditorium.
Composed by late Prof Abdur Rashid Miah, “Hitarar Geet” was directed by advocate Sayaqul Islam, also president of the sangsad. It was the 24th show of the dance-drama.
The cast of the show were Surya, Mou, Bithi, Jyostna Begum, Khodeja Akhtar, Abul Kashem Sarker and Laxman Chandra Dhar.
The dance drama was aired on Bangladesh Television on various occasions. It was also staged in Kolkata.
Earlier, a discussion was held.
Speakers Ekramul Haque Titu, mayor of Mymensingh municipality; Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu, secretary of Bahurupi Natya Sangstha, among others pointed out that traditional dance-dramas, replete with folk songs of this region, still draw attention through folk songs. As they are gradually losing their appeal, they said, adding that these old forms of entertainment should be revived.
