Veteran singer Abdul Jabbar’s condition unchanged

The health condition of noted singer and freedom fighter Abdul Jabbar remains unchanged, said doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where he is undergoing treatment.

BSMMU Director (Hospital) Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun told The Daily Star today.

Jabbar, who inspired freedom fighters as well as the nation during the Liberation War with his spirited songs, is at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the BSMMU.

He has been at the ICU with chronic renal and cardiac complications since August 1, 2017. Besides, Jabbar who is diabetic is also suffering from other ailments like liver problems and heart disease.

Due to falling blood pressure, the kidney dialysis process could not be continued on him, the director said yesterday.

Abdul Jabbar with his enthralling renditions inspired freedom fighters and the nation during the country's Liberation War in 1971.

The artiste of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra also donated money, collected through singing at different concerts, to the Liberation War fund during the war.

Abdul Jabbar, president of Bangladesh Sangskritik Parishad, won various awards including Ekushey Padak (1980) and Shadhinota Padak (1996).

"Salam Salam Hajar Salam", "Joy Bangla Banglar Joy" and "Tumi Ki Dekheso Kobhu Jiboner Porajoy" are some of his most popular hits.
