Female leads who reign supreme in Dhallywood

Dhallywood has historically been graced with the presence of numerous supremely talented leading ladies. Armed with robust acting chops, indisputable glamour and bold personalities, a number of them have gone on to become household names in Bangladesh over the years. In this article, we take a look at the noteworthy female leads of the present generation, their current projects, future plans in the pipeline and more.  

Popular actor Moushumi stepped into the silver screen with her performance in Keyamot Theke Keyamot. Ever since, she has acted in countless blockbuster hits, received the National Film Award and made her name as one of the most commercially successful female actors of all time in Bangladesh. Moushumi’s latest release was the film Nolok, which premiered on this year’s Eid ul Fitr. Currently, Moushumi is working on an upcoming film titled Modhu Da. Another one of her projects, Pobitro Bhalobasha is scheduled to release soon.

In terms of popularity, actor Purnima overshadows most of her contemporaries. As a veteran actor, Purnima has delivered an abundance of hit films in her career span of over twenty years. Even though she took a hiatus from films for some time in between, she continued acting in tele-fictions along with modeling and hosting shows. Currently, Purnima is working on two films – Jam and Gangchil. Both movies are nearly at the end of their respective production cycles.

Another renowned female lead who has been working in the industry for two decades is Popy. She remained loyal to acting in films exclusively and has presented her fans with many hits during her career. She is also a three-time recipient of the National Film Award. Currently, Popy is working on three films titled Shahoshi Joddha, Save Live and Kathgoray Sarat Chandra, respectively.

Dhallywood star Apu Biswas has acted in nearly 70 films opposite Shakib Khan in her career. She has reduced the number of projects she works on simultaneously these days. Presently, she is working on the movie Bhalobasha Zindabad. 

Bidya Sinha Saha Mim made her mark in showbiz at the very beginning of her career by winning the title of Lux Channel i Superstar. In the following years, Mim became one of the most sought after actors in the film industry and even went on to win a National Film Award for her work. Currently, Mim is awaiting the release of her film Shaap Ludu. She will soon begin filming for the upcoming movie Poran. Mim also takes time out to act in web series once in a while.

Heartthrob Pori Moni rose to fame quite quickly upon commencing her career in Dhallywood. Her films have all been well received by the audience, including her latest release, Shopnojaal. Pori Moni is currently busy working on her upcoming film Bishwa Shundori.

Mahiya Mahi is another name that has taken Dhallywood by storm in recent years. She has acted in many blockbuster hits and intends to continue doing so for a long time to come. She is currently awaiting the release of her film Obotar. Mahi has also signed on for an upcoming movie titled Shopnobaji, which she will begin shooting for soon.

Actor Boby made her way to the silver screen from television many years ago. She has acted in a number of hit films, including Dehorokkhi. Her latest release, Nolok, on this year’s Eid ul Fitr, has garnered plenty of praise and attention for her. Boby is awaiting another release in the upcoming Eid ul Adha.

Yet another popular actor, Bubly, became the talk of the town with her very first performance in the film Bossgiri. Every film she has acted in ever since, has been extremely well received by the audience. She has been paired opposite Shakib Khan in all her films. Currently, Bubly is working on a film titled Bir, and awaiting the release of her upcoming movie Moner Moto Manush Pailam Na.

Celebrated actor Nusraat Faria has been maintaining an exceptionally busy schedule working in films, both in Bangladesh and India. Recently, one of her Indian films, Bibaho Obhijaan was released in Bangladesh. Nusraat Faria is currently working on the upcoming film Dhaka 2040.

Jaya Ahsan is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in our entertainment industry. She has delivered many blockbuster hits in her career, including the films Guerrilla and Debi, among many others. She is a three-time National Film Award recipient and has made her mark in both the Bangladeshi and Indian film industry as a critically and commercially viable actor. She is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming movie Beauty Circus. Apart from that, she is gearing up to produce a new film titled Furot.

From tele-fictions to movies, Nusrat Imrose Tisha has proven to be a spectacular performer in every medium. Apart from receiving the National Film Award, Tisha has made a name for herself in the international film fraternity through her performances as well. Her films Haldaa, Shonibaar Bikel and Doob have all received critical acclaim on various international platforms. Her latest release Phagun Haway was both a critical and commercial success. Tisha is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming movie Mayaboti.

Zakia Bari Mamo’s performance in Chhuye Dile Mon surpassed expectations and put her under the silver screen limelight. Earlier, she had received praise for her work in the movie Daruchini Dwip. Her film Alta Banu was also well received by critics both in Bangladesh and abroad.
