Purnima Glad to be back

One-time Dhallywood darling, Purnima stepped back from the camera some  years ago. Now she has returned with a bang and TV viewers can look forward to seeing her in an array of exciting roles. The actress spoke to The Daily Star about her comeback.

What's it like to return to the media after such a long hiatus? 

Purnima: It's obviously exciting to get back to work after  three years.  I've worked in television plays before, though.

What can TV viewers expect from you this upcoming Eid?

Purnima: A tele-film titled “Amar Bela Je Jaye” directed by Arif Khan, and a one-hour play “Prem Othoba Dusshopner Raatdin” by director Tuhin Hossain.

Why did you decide to act in Eid plays after stepping back from the limelight?

Purnima: I agreed to act in the plays when I learnt that foremost actors like Afzal Hossain, Suborna Mostofa and Mahfuz Ahmed are my co-artistes. Besides, Arif Khan is one of my favourite directors. I have also worked with Mosharraf Karim on  another assignment . These projects are a dream come true.  

Why did you disappear from the scene so long?

Purnima: I had to quit acting because I became a mother, which I consider one of the greatest gifts.

How are things on the personal front?

Purnima: Great. If I can manage the time I will act in some selective roles, particularly with directors who respect me and my artistry. I don't think I can find too much time though as my life revolves around my daughter now.

Is it tough to be away from your daughter when you're shooting?

Purnima: Oh, she's all I think about! I did miss her terribly during all my shoots. 

Any chance of a return to the silver screen?

Purnima: Not right now, at least. I took the decision to stay away from cinema because my child needs my time. Whatever happens later will depend on how things shape up.

Did you get the jitters when you stood in front of the camera again? 

Purnima: Not really. Shooting ran quite smoothly.
