Application call for The Aminul Islam Young Artists Award and Subir Choudhury Curatorial Practice Grant announced
Bengal Foundation has announced a call for application for the 2018 edition of the Aminul Islam Young Artists Award and Subir Choudhury Curatorial Practice Grant. The deadline for submissions of the applications is until December 20, 2018, according to the official website.
Head of Operations of the Programme, Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, mentioned that both the grant and award are subjected to the emerging young art practitioners of the country.
Named after late art activist and trustee of Bengal Foundation, Subir Choudhury, the foundation will promote the curatorial practice in the country for the first time this year. “Curatorial practice is still a new concept in our country. Previously, the artists would curate their own shows,” says Sarwar. “However, we now have some first generation professional art curators in the art field, so we thought that introducing the grant would be appropriate. There is no age bar; anyone above eighteen can apply for the grant.”
The Bengal Arts Programme offers modest grants and awards in different categories to facilitate research and art practice to young artists, researchers and curators to encourage structural and experimental practices in the realm of visual art.
Two artists will be awarded a minimum of Tk 1 lakh each for the Aminul Islam Young Artists Award and Tk 4 lakh will be given for the Subir Choudhury Curatorial Practice Grant.
