Ritwik remembered in Rajshahi
A three-day long film festival began in Rajshahi on November 4, commemorating the 93rd birth anniversary of renowned auteur Ritwik Ghatak. This is the seventh instalment of the festival organised by Ritwik Ghatak Film Society, an association of film lovers dedicated to highlighting Ritwik Ghatak’s work.
The inaugural session was held at the Rajshahi Homeopathic College premises where Ritwik lived with his parents for some time in the 1940s. Filmmaker, Tanvir Mokammel and language movement veteran, Abul Hossain were presented the Ritwik Ghatak Honorary Award 2018 at the festival for their contribution to films.
On the second evening of the festival, Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s film Meghe Dhaka Tara was screened at Lalon Shah Mancha on the Padma riverbank of Pathanpara. The film is a depiction of Ritwik Ghatak’s social and political life. On the third evening, Ritwik’s film Titas Ekti Nodir Naam will be screened at the same venue.
