Rabindra festival underway in Shahzadpur

A three-day traditional Rabindra festival that began at Shahzadpur Kacharibari in Sirajganj marking the 155th birth festival of the Nobel laureate poet on Sunday -- comes to a close today. 

Cultural Affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival, where a discussion and cultural programme were chalked out. 

Sirajganj deputy commissioner Md. Billal Hossain chaired the programme while the health minister Md. Nasim spoke as the chief guest. 

The speakers stressed on the need to upholding Tagore's spirit to fight terrorism, and bring peace and harmony to the world. 

“Rabindranath Tagore teaches us how to love people. His writings celebrate humanity,” Asaduzzaman Noor said.  

“Rabindranath Tagore took the Bangla literature around the world. He introduced Bangla and Bangalees around the world,” Md. Nasim said, and stressed to take the lessons from Tagore's writing to be an ideal Bengalee. 

Local artistes and artistes from Dhaka joined a cultural programme performing music and dance to Tagore songs. 

Earlier, a seminar was held on the occasion, titled “Rabindra merits in East Bengal”. Tagore researcher Habibur Rahman Shwapan read the keynote paper on the occasion, while former vice chancellor of Rajshahi University Abdul Khaleque and professor Nasim Uddin Malitha, leading researcher of Tagore held a discussion on the subject.
