Understanding folk and tribal dance with Sharmila Banerjee
The sixth episode of Bengal Foundation's regular lecture demonstration series, “Understanding Dance with Sharmila Banerjee”, will be held today at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct. The latest episode of the series will be in two parts, based on tribal and folk dances of Bangladesh.
The series is curated and presented by celebrated artiste, choreographer and educator Sharmila Banerjee. It will be an evening of lectures and demonstrations complemented by audio-visual content, and practical demonstrations of various forms of folk, tribal and ethnic dances from across the wider Bengal. The focus of the lecture will be on history and evolution of folk and tribal dance forms, their significance in the culture of Bangladesh, and demonstrations of folk dance forms such as Pata nach, Paik nach, Mayurbhanj Chhau, Tripura, Jum Nach and Raibenshe.
