Shahabuddin Ahmed's solo exhibit opens today at BSA

A solo exhibition by internationally-acclaimed Bangladeshi artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, titled “Peace”, opens today at Gallery No. 2 of National Art Gallery, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). BSA and Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata (India) in association with the Bangladesh Ministry of Cultural Affairs have organised the month-long exhibition.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the exhibition as chief guest at National Theatre Hall auditorium of BSA at 4:30pm today. Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA, will deliver the welcome address while Smita Bajoria, director of Ganges Art Gallery, will speak at the opening programme.

A press conference was held in this regard at the seminar room of BSA where Shahabuddin Ahmed, Md Ibrahim Hossain Khan, Liaquat Ali Lucky, Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury (secretary, BSA), Ashraful Alam Paplu, (director, Department of Fine Art, BSA) and Smita Bajoria were present.

The opening ceremony will include the launching of a book “Amar Muktijuddha”, written by Shahabuddin Ahmed, and screening parts of a documentary titled “Colour of Freedom”, based on the life and works of the Shadhinata Padak-winning artist. Following the inaugural discussion and acrobatic show, the premier will inaugurate the exhibition.

The exhibition, featuring over 30 recent artworks by the maestro, will include portraits of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi together with works of Shahabuddin's famous series like “Freedom Fighter”, “Birangona”, “Speed”, “Victory” and more.

“Peace” is open for all from 11am to 8pm daily (3pm to 8pm on Fridays). It was previously displayed at the Ganges Art Gallery, India.
