Young South Asian printmakers’ exhibition at Kala Kendra

Marking the 91st birth anniversary of eminent artist Mohammad Kibria (January 1), Kibria Printmaking Studio organised the South Asian Young Printmakers Award at Kala Kendra, Mohammadpur, recently. Previously known as the Kibria Young Printmakers Award, this year’s competition featured artists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

Art critic Moinuddin Khaled spoke about Mohammad Kibria’s contributions in printmaking in the inaugural ceremony. 106 artists participated at the competition, among which, 27 were selected to exhibit their works at a group show following the event. The exhibition will conclude on January 15.

The artwork selection committee members were Ratan Majumder, Ahmed Nazir and Mustafa Zaman, while the award selection committee comprised of Indrapramit Roy, Dhali Al Mamoon and A K M Alamgir Huque. 

Three artistes, Preya Bhagat (India), Rakib Alam Shanto (Bangladesh) and Sandeep Suneriya (India), are the finalists for the South Asian Young Printmakers Award,this year. Preya Bhagat will receive the award during Print Fair, which is to be held on February 14, 2020, at Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka.
