Jaya wins Best Actress Award!

Bangladeshi popular actress Joya Ahsan

At the  third edition of the Jio Filmfare Awards (East)  Bangladesh's Jaya Ahsan bagged the award of Best Actress in the “popular” category for her stellar performance in the Indo-Bangla joint venture movie “Bishorjan”. She received the award from veteran director Sujoy Ghosh on Saturday in Kolkata's Science City Auditorium.

The programme came alive with brilliant hosting by Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Abeer Chatterjee.

Prosenjit Chatterjee won the award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role for “Mayurakshi”, while “Bishorjan” was declared the Best Film. Ishaa Saha won the award for the Best Actress (Critics). Director Kaushik Ganguly received the award for both Best Director and Best Original Story respectively.

 Jaya had previously been nominated for her performances in “Aborto” and “Eagle'r Chokh”. Sharmin Sultana Sumi and Pavel Arin from Bangladesh's premiere band Chirkutt had also been nominated for the categories of Best Playback Singer, Best Lyrics and Best Background Score respectively for their incredible work in Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's “Doob”. In this edition of the Jio Filmfare Awards (East), about 100 films were nominated  in 25 categories. There were 10 awards for the popular choice category alongside ones from the critics and miscellaneous segments. The programme ended with a dazzling cultural evening with performances from Bengal's finest.
