GO BIG OR GO HOME
This week on the 9th episode of Rupchanda-The Daily Star Super Chef 2015, alliances will be made and broken. Yet another team challenge awaits the participants and because the stakes are higher, there are a few more obstacles put in the way. This week, the participants will have to cook a traditional Bangladeshi meal, with mustard oil being a key feature of all the dishes.
The show will kick off with all ten participants first being explained the rule. Then the ten will be equally divided into two teams. According to the rules of the competition, previous winners Latifa and Jebunessa will lead the teams as team leader. The team leader, apart from ensuring that the team works efficiently will also have to decide what to cook, who will do what and how to achieve the best results. Now, a question remains whether the team leaders selected are actually fit to lead their teams. Both Latifa and Jebunessa are known for their sweet dispositions. Can thorough niceness actually lead a team to victory? Experience would have to suggest a resounding 'no' is the most fitting answer to that particular question.
An interesting tangent here will be the when the leaders select their first team mate. Will they pick the best challenger according to them or will they avoid their competition? Another aspect will be how well team mates take their leader's orders. If they fail to do so properly, then their chances of being a Super Chef will diminish remarkably.
The team that fails to win the challenge will find themselves facing the “tike-thakar-lorai', the fight for survival. That is when elimination doesn't seem like a possibility anymore but rather a probability. It will also be interesting to see how the participants change their mindset quickly enough to realise that those who were just their team mates two minutes ago have suddenly become the people to beat. Those that fail to adapt will find themselves staring at the exit door quick enough.
This week, the judges will also take time to assess each candidate as they work and point out the mistakes they need to rectify. For instance, Shaheda Yesmin made the observation this week that SM Sakib had almost all that was needed to become the next Super Chef. Unfortunately, he wasn't tidy enough and this may be the reason why he will fail to make the grade when the time comes. Such observations and suggestions will be given to a number of participants this week. As the team challenge winds up, the fight for survival, tike-thakar-lorai comes to the forefront. What will be the challenge there? Who will prevail in the end? Who will be eliminated? While the episodes answer these questions, we ask you to answer a few more. The picture here shows Team Jebunessa and her members, torn between elation and sadness. Did they win? Did they lose? Watch as every emotion is revealed and chronicled and we take one step closer to crowning our Super Chef tonight sharp at 9:00 pm only on ntv.
