Humayun Faridi to receive posthumous Ekushey Padak
One of the greatest actors of Bangladesh, Humayun Faridi has left behind an unforgettable legacy in the world of theatre, television and film. Towards the end of his life, he created more recognition as a small screen director. Humayun Faridi earned many awards and accolades in his lifetime, and now he is being posthumously awarded this year's prestigious Ekushey Padak.
As news of this honour spread on social media, stars shared their thoughts and feelings on the matter. While some celebrated the news, many others are of the opinion that the award should have been bestowed on Faridi during his lifetime. Renowned actor and Faridi's former wife Suborna Mustafa said on Facebook: “Ekushey Padak for the outstanding actor of our times…just wishing it wasn't posthumous.”
Noted actor Afzal Hossain, who was also a close friend of the late actor shared the same opinion: “The award has finally been given in his name at last, which makes me happy. But I'd be even happier if he were with us today,” he wrote on Facebook.
Popular actor, director and writer Tariq Anam Khan stated: “Faridi's capacity for acting was unmatched, and I thank the government for recognising him with the Ekushey Padak award. I wish that it had come sooner when he was still alive.”
Actor Sazu Khadem also took to the social media outlet to say: “Salute to the Legend.” Shahiduzzaman Selim, who had known Faridi since their college years in Jahangirnagar University, and Dhaka Theatre after that, wrote: “While I am happy that this long deserving award has come at last, we would have all been celebrating differently if Humayun Faridi had received it when he was still with us.”
