Intertwining pictures and poetry

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – in Fahad Al Alam's case, those words are now transferred to pages.

This is because the ambitious photographer and writer has combined photography and poetry for his self-published book, A piece of whisper.

Fahad began exposing films a few years ago and he loved experimenting with different film formats and developing those films at home. A piece of whisper contains his photographs, all shot on film, and a book of poems, separately.

 What is compelling about Fahad's work is that the words of his poetry are wonderfully accompanied by his photographs. When asked what he enjoys about writing poetry, Fahad says, “I write when I feel that my emotions are piling up and I can't express something in my photos.”

The story of the book derives from the last four years of Fahad's life. He describes it as his daily diary. It contains photos of his college days and other things he holds close to his heart. “As I grew up in Naogaon, I have always felt very close to nature.  So, I have documented nature's beauty in contrast to the urbanisation and crowds in Dhaka in my book,” he explains.  A piece of whisper was launched yesterday at MIB Spirit, Dhanmondi.
