I have refused five films for ‘Dhaka 2040’ - Bappy
Bappy Chowdhury is one of the film industry’s most sought-after names, and has created a craze around him in a relatively short period of time. The actor is now working on a new film titled Dhaka 2040, and has high hopes related to it. Bappy chats with The Daily Star about his career, philosophy and upcoming projects.
You are shooting a new film at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Would you shed some light on it?
I am indeed shooting for Dipankar Dipon’s Dhaka 2040. The shooting just started recently, and we will soon go to Tangail, then Sylhet to shoot some scenes. After the first lot ends, we will immediately start work on the second lot. I will not sign any other films before I finish shooting this.
What kind of preparations did you have to take for ‘Dhaka 2040’?
I have lost 8 kilograms for this film, and had to work really hard for it. Besides that, I had to opt out of five films, including one named Beshamal, and return a lot of money because of it. I’ve had to take lessons in dancing and fighting. There was no stone left unturned during my preparations.
You’ve worked with Tisha and Nusraat Faria for the first time. How was your experience?
Tisha is obviously a very seasoned artiste, and it was a pleasure working with her. Nusraat Faria has already made a name for herself in both sides of the border. Both of them were amazing to work with, and I hope that our efforts will be fruitful in the end. People will remember this film for a long time.
What are the director’s expectations from you?
Dipankar Dipon is an exceptionally talented director, and he wanted very detailed and natural acting from me. I have given it my best in Dhaka 2040. I left 5 projects to be a part of this film, because I think it has limitless potential. After someone watches the film, I am confident that they will be able to say that they saw a quality film.
What are your dreams regarding the industry?
Whatever I am today, is because of cinema. All I want is the number of good works to increase. Because at the end of the day, the good things will last in the memories of people.
