Bari Siddiqui remembered in Mymensingh

A group of baul singers rendered songs of eminent folk singer and flautist Bari Siddiqui at a programme held at Advocate Tareq Smriti Auditorium in Mymensingh on Sunday evening.

Jalal Chetona Parishad Mymensingh, a forum to promote folk songs organised the event.

The most popular songs of the artiste rendered at the programme were “Shua Chan Pakhi”, “Amar Gaye Joto Dukkho Shoy”, “Lilua Batashe Pran Na Juray”, “Ami Ekta Jinda Laash” and many more.

The artistes were Sunil Kumar Karmakar, Tansen Rahman, Golam Moula, Enamul Fakir, Emon Talukder, Shahed, Sagor Talukder, Jewel and Hasan.

Earlier, a discussion on the life and work of Bari Siddiqui was held.

Eminent lyricist Shahidullah Farayezi; Netrakona Sahitya Samaj president Professor Kamrul Islam Chowdhury and Minhazur Rahman, head of programme, Mohana Television spoke on the occasion with Sarwar Kamal Robin, president of Jalal Chetona Parishad in the chair. Poet Amjad Dulon anchored the event.

Recalling his outstanding contributions to enrich the country's folk songs, the speakers said he was able to take this art form to the highest peak through his dedication.

It was the artiste's great achievement that country's common people found a resonance of their sorrows and happiness in his songs and thus he earned his name and fame both as folk singer and flautist, they said.

His songs, they added, must be preserved and urged the preservation also of Baul Bari where the artiste was laid to rest.

Siddiqui, born to a musical family in Netrakona on November 15, 1954 died of heart attack at a Dhaka hospital on November 17.
